Gottfried Leibbrandt, CEO SWIFT, speaks at the Paris Fintech Forum
The Forum is the most exclusive European event on fintech & digital finance
On January 31, Gottfried Leibbrandt spoke at the 2018 Paris FinTech Forum, held at the former stock exchange in the Place de la Bourse, Paris.
The popular event gathered 2,000+ attendees in the very heart of Paris, to listen to 200+ CEO's and c-levels from banks, insurance, telco, regulators and of course Fintechs from all continents.
The two day event addressed key issues around digital finance in general and FinTech in particular, with many major brands and small startups showcasing their products. Leibbrandt’s remarks highglighted the work done by SWIFT to introduce new technology and provide a more efficient payment tracking service with the gpi initiative.
“The combination of technology and the ground swell of interest from the industry allowed us to roll out gpi. What it does is track the payment, it identifies the payment end to end, across all the banks in the chain - just like a UPS package - but it's also a set of SLAs between banks. All gpi payments are processed within less than a day, and half within an hour."
He also covered Cyber Security and the SWIFT Customer Security Programme following the news that 89% of customers have self-attested against the security controls. He raised the evolving cyber threat to the financial industry – and how SWIFT is helping banks and customers to better protect themselves.
